LOS ANGELES – The Coast Guard is searching for a person in the water near Dana Point, Calif.
Coast Guard watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles/Long Beach Operations Center in Long Beach received a call from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department at 10:59 a.m., reporting that an 18-foot Boston Whaler was actively spinning in circles two miles west of Dana Point.
The Coast Guard immediately launched a 45-foot Response Boat — Medium boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Los Angeles, a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles, a MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station San Diego, along with Orange County Sheriff’s Department water and air assets to assist in search efforts.
One of two boaters has been located one mile off shore of Dana Point in good condition. The boater reported that they entered the water at 9 a.m. The Coast Guard along with local agencies are continuing to search for the second fisherman who is a 40-year-old male, last seen in a white shirt, blue jeans and no life-jacket.
