Coast Guard searching for overdue kayaker near Tybee Island, Georgia

65 DetroitTYBEE ISLAND, Ga. — Crews from the Coast Guard and Chatham County Sheriff’s Office are searching for an overdue kayaker, Monday, in the vicinity of Tybee Island, Georgia.

Missing is a 38-year-old man, last seen wearing green cargo shorts, a blue T-shirt and a blue lifejacket.

The Coast Guard was notified of the situation by Chatham County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 9 a.m., Monday. The initial report, made by the wife to the sheriff’s office, stated the man departed from the Tybee Island public boat ramp and was expected back at 9 p.m., Sunday.

Crewmembers aboard a 45-foot Response Boat—Medium from Coast Guard Station Tybee Island are searching as well as an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah. A Coast Guard Auxiliary boatcrew are also searching.
