Coast Guard searching for overdue fisherman in South Fenwick Island, S.C.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coast Guard is responding to a report of an overdue fisherman in the area of South Fenwick Island, SC., Thursday.

Coast Guard Sector Charleston watchstanders received a report Thursday at 7:44 a.m. from an associate of the missing fisherman to report the vessel overdue from an oyster fishing trip that took place on Wednesday.  The associate expected the missing fisherman to return in the evening after departing in the late afternoon, but never returned home.

Crews from Coast Guard Station Charleston, Coast Guard Air Station Savannah, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the Colleton County Sherriff’s Office completed multiple searches throughout the day.

South Carolina Department of Natural Resources located the missing fisherman’s 14-foot jon-boat in the area of Fish Creek.

Search efforts to locate the missing fisherman continue.
