Coast Guard searching for overdue boater near Bar Harbor, Maine

BOSTON — The Coast Guard is searching the area around Eastern Bay and Frenchman Bay near Bar Harbor, Maine, for a boater reported overdue Tuesday.

The overdue boater is Dr. Jon Myers from Freeport, Maine. He was wearing a green fleece and blue jeans when he left Salsbury Cove, Maine, earlier Tuesday. He is around six-feet tall with brown hair.

Myers left Salsbury Cove in a sailboat towing a 12-foot skiff with an outboard motor. He dropped the sailboat off at Hancock Point, Maine, and was reported leaving there in the aluminum skiff between 3 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., but has not been seen or heard from since. He was expected to return to Salsbury Cove.

A 25-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Southwest Harbor and the Bar Harbor harbor master are currently searching. An HU-25 Falcon Jet crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod is refueling and expected to rejoin the search soon. An HH-60J Jayhawk helicopter is en route the area.
