Coast Guard searching for missing swimmer near Huntington Beach, Calif.

11th Coast Guard District NewsSAN PEDRO, Calif. — The Coast Guard and local agencies are responding to a report of a missing swimmer near Huntington Beach, Calif., Wednesday.

The missing swimmer is reported to be a 26-year-old African-American male and was last seen by lifeguards at approximately 7 p.m. Wednesday, about 200 yards offshore in the vicinity of the Surfside area of Huntington Beach. Surfside is located between Sunset Beach and the northern entrance of Anaheim Bay.

The multi-agency search consists of rescue boats from Coast Guard Station Los Angeles-Long Beach, Newport Harbor Patrol (Orange County Sheriff’s Dept.) and Long Beach Lifeguards. A Huntington Beach Police Department helicopter is also aiding in the search.

Coast Guard Cutter Narwhal, an 87-foot coastal patrol boat, is currently enroute to the search area.
