NEW YORK — The Coast Guard and local agencies are searching for a mariner that went missing in the Connecticut River near Haddam Meadows State Park, Sunday afternoon.
Missing is a 17-year old male.
He dove into the water after another member in his party struggled to get to shore. He did not resurface. He was wearing black shorts, no shirt, and no lifejacket.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound were notified by Westport Police Department that the swimmer had gone into the Connecticut River to provide assistance.
Sector watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast, and launched Coast Guard Station New London.
