Coast Guard searching for missing swimmer near Freeport, Texas

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard is searching for a missing swimmer at Surfside Beach near Freeport, Texas.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. Sunday, Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received notification that a 17-year-old boy was reported missing after not making it back to shore while swimming with friends.

Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched a Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin aircrew and a Coast Guard Station Freeport 29-foot Response Boat–Small boat crew. The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Sea Horse was also diverted.

Involved in the search are:

  • A Station Freeport 29-foot Response Boat–Small boat crew
  • Coast Guard Cutter Sea Horse
  • Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office
  • Freeport Police Department
  • Surfside Police Department
  • Freeport EMS
