Coast Guard searching for missing person near Clearwater Pass

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Coast Guard is searching for a missing person near Marker 4 in the vicinity of Clearwater Pass, Fla., Sunday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Sand Key, Fla., received a call at approximately 1:20 p.m. from local emergency personnel stating they had received information about a person in the water from two people jet skiing in the area.

The two jet skiers were in bound to Clearwater Pass near Marker 4 when they noticed a white male wearing a green and yellow hat floating face down in the channel.

The jet skiers attempted to check if the man was possibly diving or in distress but as they got closer he reportedly disappeared.

The jet skiers immediately returned to shore where they notified the jet ski rental owner who called emergency personnel.

Searching are:

* Two Coast Guard Station Sand Key 25-foot small response boat crews
* The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Crocodile
* Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter rescue crew
* Two Coast Guard Auxiliary boat crews
* Pinellas County Fire and Rescue boat crew

Water conditions on scene were 2-3 feet and choppy.
