Coast Guard searching for missing person in the water near Coney Island

NEW YORK – The Coast Guard is searching for a possible missing male who entered the water near 33rd St., and board walk in Coney Island, N.Y., Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

The Coast Guard received a call from NYPD reporting that a male dressed in black walked into the water, began swimming, went under water and did not resurface. The NYPD and FDNY launched marine, aviation and land units to search the area.

The Coast Guard launched a 25-foot rescue boat from Coast Guard Station New York, in Staten Island, N.Y., and a HH-65 rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, Atlantic City, N.J., to assist in the search.

Weather conditions on scene are one foot seas and eight knot winds.
