Coast Guard searching for missing Maui diver

HONOLULU — U.S. Coast Guard crews are searching for a diver who went missing approximately five miles west of Maui Tuesday at 1 p.m.

A rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point, a Coast Guard Station Maui small boat crew, a crew from the Coast Guard Cutter Ahi and Maui Fire Department personnel are searching the channel between Lahaina and Lanai.

Rescue crews are looking for any signs of Tam Sing, a 69-year-old male who was wearing a black wet suit and scuba gear. Sing was on a commercial fishing boat and diving with three other people.

Maui Police Department personnel contacted the Coast Guard at approximately 2 p.m., and Coast Guard crews were on scene at 2:40 p.m.

Coast Guard crews plan to search throughout the night.
