WAUKEGAN, Ill. — Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan is coordinating a search for a 44-year-old man reported missing from an overturned green canoe at 5 p.m. Sunday approximately one mile offshore of Waukegan.
A 25-foot small response boat crew from Station Kenosha and a rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Traverse City are searching for the man.
A man fishing on an 18-foot Lund reported seeing an overturned green canoe with a green jacket inside.
The missing man’s lifevest and registration were found onshore near the Commonwealth and Edison stacks Sunday after 5 p.m.
The 44-year-old went kayaking in Lake Michigan at approximately 4 p.m. Sunday, and his family expected him to return home by 6 p.m.
If anyone has information on the location of the missing man are asked to contact their nearest Coast Guard unit.
