Coast Guard searching for missing man near Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Coast Guard and Virginia Beach Fire and Rescue are conducting a first light search Monday morning for a 58-year-old male off the first island of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, Va.Virginia Beach 911 operators notified Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders that the man fell overboard at approximately 10 p.m. Sunday night. Before falling overboard from the 25-foot pleasure craft, the man was wearing a windbreaker and shorts with no personal flotation device.

A Station Little Creek rescue boat crew arrived on scene at 10:10 p.m. to begin searching. Shortly after the Little Creek crew arrived, a rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., and Virginia Beach and Norfolk Marine Patrol boats arrived to search for the missing man throughout the night.

Crews conducting the first light search and currently on scene are Air Station Elizabeth City, the Coast Guard Cutter Shearwater, Station Cape Charles, and Virginia Beach Fire and Rescue.
