Coast Guard searching for missing man in Pamlico River, NC

60 Elizabeth CityWILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard is searching for a missing man Monday after his boat was discovered adrift in the Pamlico River near Aurora.

Watchstanders at Sector North Carolina in Wilmington received notification from a good Samaritan at approximately 2:20 p.m., reporting an unmanned 23-foot pleasure craft adrift near Hickory Point at the entrance to South Creek, with a dog and live crabs aboard.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Hobucken are searching along with Bath and Bunyan Fire Dept. crews and two good Samaritan trawlers.

Winds on scene are up to 28 mph, seas are about two feet, the air temperature is 70 degrees and the water temperature is 72 degrees. Visibility is about five miles.
