Coast Guard Searching for Missing Man After Boat Found Capsized

STURGEON BAY, Wis.– The Coast Guard is searching for a missing man, today, after his sailboat was found capsized seven nautical miles northwest of Ellison Bay.

The daughter of the missing man, Carl Christianson, reported that her father was overdue from a sailing trip.

Coast Guard Stations Sturgeon Bay and Washington Island are searching for the man with a 41-foot utility boat , 25-foot response boat and a 27-foot safe boat.

Additionally, Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City has two HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopters contributing to the search.

Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla Escanaba, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Door County Sheriff’s Department are participating in the search.

All agencies are conducting search patterns, harbor checks and shoreline searches.

Station Sturgeon bay will tow the 16-foot sailboat back to shore.
