Coast Guard Searching for Missing Man

BALTIMORE – The Coast Guard is searching for a man believed to be missing after finding his boat adrift last night in the Chesapeake Bay.

At about 6:30 p.m. last night, the Maryland Transportation Police notified Coast Guard Sector Baltimore of a vessel they observed near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge that was adrift and banging up against pilings. A crew from Coast Guard Station Annapolis, Md., was launched and arrived on scene. The vessel was observed to have frayed mooring lines and was initially believed to have simply broken free from its dock, but further investigation revealed that Michael McDonough, 50, from Arnold, Md., lived aboard this 39-foot sailing vessel. Additionally, McDonough had been expected to meet with friends last night but did not show.

The Coast Guard rescue crew from Station Annapolis, a helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., and the Maryland Natural Resource Police searched through the night and are continuing the search this morning.
