Coast Guard searching for missing kayakers in Memphis

25-foot response boatMEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Coast Guard is responding to a report of two people in the water near the mouth of the Wolf River Chute in Memphis, Friday.

Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi River received a report of an overturned kayak leaving two people in the water this morning.

Watchstanders directed the launch of a 25-foot Response Boat-Small from Sector Lower Mississippi River.

Agencies assisting in the search are:

  • U.S. Army Corp of Engineers
  • Memphis Fire Department
  • Memphis Police Department
  • Economy Boat Store
  • Lucy Woodstock
  • Wepfer Marine

Members of the public are encouraged to contact Sector Lower Mississippi River at 901-521-4824, and local mariners on channel 16 if they have additional information or suspect they know someone involved in the case.
