Coast Guard searching for missing kayaker off Port Canaveral, Fla.

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. – The Coast Guard is searching for a missing kayaker Thursday who left to go fishing Wednesday morning and never returned home.

Missing is Michael Alexander, 49, from Port Canaveral.

Alexander’s girlfriend contacted Coast Guard watchstanders Thursday and reported that she found a note Wednesday morning written by Alexander stating that he was going fishing. He never returned home. He was reported to own an orange, single person kayak.

An HH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., a Brevard County Sheriff’s Department helicopter crew and a 25-foot small-boat crew from Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral has deployed to search for Alexander.

Anybody with information regarding the whereabouts of Alexander, or having information pertinent to his safe return home, are being asked to contact the Sector Jacksonville command center at 904- 564-7511.
