Coast Guard searching for missing kayaker near Swan’s Island, Maine

Missing is 18-year-old Jackson Day, who was last seen Tuesday at 10 a.m. in an 8-foot yellow kayak at Swan’s Island Ferry Terminal.

The Coast Guard Sector Northern New England Command Center in Portland received a call shortly before 8 p.m. from Day’s mother, who said he was overdue from his trip.

He was reported to be wearing a hooded sweatshirt and shorts. He is about six feet tall, 160 pounds with short dark blond hair and blue eyes.

Multiple authorities have joined the search including two 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crews from Coast Guard Station Southwest Harbor, an MH-60 Jayhawk Helicopter rescue crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Massachusetts, the local Sheriff’s department, and the Maine Marine Patrol.
