NEW YORK – A search is underway for a missing kayaker near Darien, Conn., after he did not return from a trip which began at approximately 3 p.m. today.
A Coast Guard rescue crew from Station Eaton’s Neck and the Darien Marine Police is searching for the missing 60-year-old male kayaker. The Norwalk Marine Police will also conduct searches near the Norwalk Islands.
The man’s dog and car were found at the residence where he entered the water.
“The sea conditions were fairly rough and several weather warnings had been issued,” said Lt. j.g. Stephanie Pitts, Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound’s command duty officer. “The report is that the man entered the water to recover a dingy which had broken loose and began to float away, but the man hasn’t returned.”
