FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla.— The Coast Guard is searching San Carlos Bay Saturday for a missing 29-year-old man who was last seen kayaking off Punta Rassa.

At 9:50 a.m. watch standers from Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach received a report from Lee County Sheriff’s Office stating a man had gone missing after camping at Punta Rassa with a group of friends.

The man left the group in a 7-foot green kayak Friday night, around 9 p.m., to fish along the beach. Members of the group stated they kept in contact with him until around 10:15 p.m. When the group awoke Saturday morning, he had not returned. Members of the group stated he did not have a life jacket, cell phone or emergency equipment in the kayak.

A 29-foot Response Boat-Small II boat crew from Station Fort Myers Beach, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter air crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, and the Fort Myers Maritime Emergency Response Team were launched to commence the search.
