Coast Guard searching for missing fisherman near Montauk

MONTAUK, N.Y. – Coast Guard Station Montauk crews are searching for a commercial fisherman near Montauk, N.Y., today.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound, in New Haven, Conn., were contacted by a local fisherman, at approximately 6:30 a.m., reporting that a male fisherman had gone missing five miles south of Montauk Point. The man was last seen when he assumed watch on the vessel at approximately 9 p.m., Tuesday.

Two rescue boat crews from Station Montauk, the Coast Guard Cutter Sailfish from Sandy Hook, N.J., and two rescue helicopters from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod in Cape Cod, Mass. are assisting in the search for the man.

The man was reported as not wearing a life jacket when he went missing.
