MURRELLS INLET, S.C. – Coast Guard crews are searching for a missing fisherman approximately 10 miles southwest of Murrells Inlet Friday morning.
Coast Guard Sector Charleston, S.C., search-and-rescue coordinators received a distress call at 6:47 p.m. Thursday from a crew member aboard the fishing vessel Lady Die reporting the vessel’s Captain, Mark Shackleford, was missing. The crew member who made the report had been sleeping and upon awakening, found the vessel’s captain missing.
The Coast Guard launched a MH-65 rescue helicopter crew from Air Facility Charleston and two small rescue boat crews from Coast Guard Station Georgetown, S.C.
In addition the 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Yellowfin, homeported in Chareston, and 175-foot Coast Guard Cutter Maria Bray, homeported in Mayport, Fla., are also assisting in the search.
