Coast Guard searching for missing diver south of Beaufort Inlet, NC

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard is searching Friday for a missing 65-year-old male diver approximately 35 miles south of Beaufort Inlet, N.C.

Crew on the dive boat Glen Ellen contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center watchstanders at approximately 1:15 p.m. reporting the diver was separated from his partner and missing for more than a hour.

Sector watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and diverted the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Kodiak Island. Additionally, the sector dispatched a crew with five local divers and emergency medical service personnel aboard a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Coast Guard Station Fort Macon Inlet. A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City also launched to assist.
