Coast Guard searching for missing diver near Breezy Point, N.Y.

Northeast Atlantic Coast Guard NewsNEW YORK – The Coast Guard along with local response agencies are searching for a reported missing diver near Breezy Point Surf Club, Breezy Point, N.Y., Friday.

The Coast Guard received notification at 3 p.m. from a dispatch service that the 29-year-old-male was reportedly last seen diving in the waters near Breezy Point at 7 a.m.

Rescue boat crews from Coast Guard Station New York and Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook, N.J., are searching along with resources from New York City Police and Fire departments.

“The Coast Guard is working together with NYPD and FDNY to search for the missing diver off of Breezy Point,” said Lt. j.g. Fannie Wilks, a search and rescue coordinator at Coast Guard Sector New York’s Command Center. “At this time, multiple marine and aviation units are responding. We ask the public’s assistance in remaining vigilant if they are in the vicinity of the search area and to contact the Coast Guard if they have further information.”

Weather conditions in the vicinity of the search are calm seas, light winds and clear visibility.
