Coast Guard searching for missing diver in Gulf of Mexico

MOBILE, Ala. — The Coast Guard is searching for a diver reported missing, Friday, approximately 40 miles off the coast of Alabama in the Gulf of Mexico.

Search and Rescue assets are:

  • An HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft and crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile;
  • An MH-65C helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans;
  • The 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Cobia and crew;
  • Alabama Marine Resources.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a call via VHF-FM radio at approximately 9:30 a.m., from the captain of a 33-foot recreational vessel who reported that a 54-year-old male diver was missing. He was reported to be wearing a black dive suit.

An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast has been issued.
