Coast Guard searching for missing crewmember

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is searching for Episanio Odavar, 39, who fell overboard from a 600-foot freight vessel, Vita Pride, 17 miles southeast of the Southwest Pass, Sunday.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report of a man going overboard from a crewmember aboard the Vita Pride at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an HH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter crew and Coast Guard Station Venice launched a rescue small-boat crew Sunday.

Initial crews resumed searching today with the addition of the Coast Guard Cutter Sturgeon.

Odavar was last seen wearing red coveralls. Any one with information regarding Odavar is requested to contact the Coast Guard at (504)-846-6162.
