Coast Guard searching for missing Connecticut boater

1st Coast Guard District NewsNEW YORK-The Coast Guard is searching for a Connecticut resident who may have fallen from his boat May 27, 2011.

Francis Closter’s sailboat was found by an employee at the ConocoPhillips pier in Riverhead, N.Y. at around 5:30 a.m. The sailboat was not moored, but against the pier with sails up and electronics running; Closter’s wallet and glasses were also found aboard the boat.

Closter, 64, of Haddam, Conn., left Thursday to sail from Midway Marina in Haddam to Clinton, Conn.

Coast Guard Stations New London and New Haven launched search and rescue boats early this morning and are joined in the search by Clinton, Conn., Fire Department., Suffolk County, N.Y., Sheriff’s Department. and Southold, N.Y., Police Department.
