Coast Guard searching for missing child

BOSTON – The Coast Guard is searching for a young boy after he reportedly fell into the Saco River, just south of Factory Island near Biddeford, Maine, at approximately 12:30 p.m., today.

The Maine Marine Patrol contacted Coast Guard Station South Portland, Maine, around 2 p.m., requesting assistance.

Station South Portland launched a 25-foot response boat around 2:15 p.m. and Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., launched a Jayhawk helicopter around 3 p.m. and arrived on scene around 4 p.m.

Boat crews from the Maine Marine Patrol and Biddeford and Saco fire departments are on scene, as well as state police divers. Maine Fish and Game launched an aircraft but was unable to locate the boy. Good Samaritans are searching along the shore line.

“We are working closely with local agencies to locate the boy,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Henry Otten, the officer of the day at Station South Portland. “We appreciate all the help the Good Samaritans are providing in the search.”
