Coast Guard Searching for Missing Bridge Jumper

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – An HH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., and a 21-foot boat crew from Station Oregon Inlet, N.C., are searching for a 33-year-old Asian male who jumped from a catwalk beneath the Bonnor Bridge at Oregon Inlet today.

The Coast Guard was notified shortly after 1 p.m. today by the operator of a pleasure craft that three people had fallen from the bridge. A Good Samaritan vessel in the area recovered two of them.

The two survivors told authorities that the missing male had jumped off the catwalk and that they jumped in to retrieve him.

Several Good Samaritans and a charter boat are assisting with the search.
