Coast Guard searching for missing boater near Westwego, Louisiana

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and the Jefferson Parrish Sheriff’s Office are searching for a missing boater whose vessel was discovered adrift and unmanned this morning in Bayou Sengette near Westwego, La.

Missing is: Robert Dominique, 44 of Westwego, La.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans launched an MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans to search for the missing man. Louisiana Wildlife and fisheries is searching with two response boats, and is being assisted by the Jefferson Parrish Sheriff’s Office, which also has a response boat on scene. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans issued an urgent marine information broadcast UMIB requesting assistance and any information concerning the whereabouts of Dominique.

Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries was notified this morning that Dominique was missing after being dropped off by a friend at a boat launch in Westwego Friday. He was last seen operating his vessel near a fish camp in Bayou Segnette.

While searching for Dominique, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries located his vessel adrift and unmanned in Bayou Segnette with a life jacket inside earlier Saturday.
