Coast Guard searching for missing boater near Murrells Inlet, S.C.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coast Guard and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources are searching for a missing boater in the vicinity of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Tuesday after local authorities located a unmanned fishing boat containing personal belongings.

Missing is Harvey Cox, 58, of Florence, S.C.

The Coast Guard was notified Tuesday by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources after locating an unmanned 12-foot Jon Boat in the vicinity of Murrells Inlet with personal belongings aboard. In addition, a vehicle and boat trailer belonging to Cox was located at a nearby boat ramp.

A Coast Guard 25-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Georgetown, S.C., and an MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter air crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston are responding.
