Coast Guard searching for missing boater in Great South Bay

NEW YORK – The Coast Guard is searching for a missing 24-year-old man in Great South Bay, N.Y., Sunday, July 10, 2011.

Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound watchstanders received a call from the father reporting his son, Joseph DiGiacomo, was overdue from a boating trip aboard an 18-foot white and blue Bay Liner.

Sector Long Island Sound issued an urgent marine information broadcast on VHF channel 16 and launched a boat crew from Coast Guard Station Fire Island, N.Y. to search for the missing boater and his dog.

His father last saw DiGiacomo when they launched the boat in the afternoon at a boat ramp in Islip, N.Y.
