Coast Guard searching for master of fishing vessel

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – The Coast Guard is searching for a 60-year-old man who fell overboard from a fishing vessel 20 miles from South Padre Island Saturday night.

A watchstander from Sector Corpus Christi received a mayday call at 11:54 p.m. from a crewmember on the fishing vessel Si Se Puede stating that the master of the vessel had fallen overboard.

An HH-65C helicopter rescue crew and an HU-25 Falcon jet from Air Station Corpus Christi and a 33-foot rescue boat crew from Station South Padre Island were immediately launched to the position of distress. Also, the Coast Guard Cutter Manatee, an 87-foot patrol boat, has recently joined the search.

The missing man was reported to be without a life jacket.

All four Coast Guard rescue assets are continue to search the area.
