Coast Guard searching for man missing in Lake Pontchartrain

NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a 33-year-old-man who went missing in Lake Pontchartrain approximately a quarter-of-a-mile south of Mandeville, La., Thursday.

The Coast Guard received a report from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office at approximately 1 a.m., that a small recreational vessel carrying two adults and one child had collided with something in the water and had ejected the two adult passengers from the vessel. One adult was able to make it back to the boat and regain control.

The Coast Guard is searching for the other adult with a 41-foot response boat and crew from Coast Guard Station New Orleans and an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter and crew from Air Station New Orleans.

The Coast Guard is searching along with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
