Coast Guard searching for man missing in Hudson River near Poughkeepsie

NEW YORK — Coast Guard crews are searching for a person in the Hudson River near downtown Poughkeepsie, New York, Tuesday afternoon.

Missing is Paul Machettia, a 48-year-old man.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New York command center received a call from the City of Poughkeepsie of a person in the water in the vicinity of Waryas Park, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Tuesday.

It was reported that five people entered the Hudson River and one of them began to struggle to stay afloat. The missing person then entered the water to help, but he failed to resurface.

  • A Coast Guard Station New York rescue crew aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium

  • Poughkeepsie Fire Department
  • Poughkeepsie Police Department
