BOSTON (D1 Public Affairs) – The Coast Guard and local agencies are searching for a 65-year-old man missing from a sailboat near the south base of Mount Hope Bay in Rhode Island today.
Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England received a radio call from a woman aboard the 32-foot sailboat Elizabeth around 4:50 p.m., reporting her husband fell off their sailboat.
A 25-foot boat from Coast Guard Station Castle Hill in Newport, R.I., and a Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., are searching the area. The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and the Portsmouth and Tiverton fire departments are also on scene.
The man was wearing a dark shirt, shorts and no life jacket.
Conditions on scene are one-foot seas and 10-knot winds. The water temperature is 76 degrees.
