Coast Guard searching for man missing from barge in Merritt Island, Fla.

Southeastern Coast Guard News
ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. – U.S. Coast Guard boat and aircrews are searching for a man who may have fallen off a barge he was working on in Canaveral Barge Canal in Merritt Island, Fla., Friday.

None of the other workers on the barge saw the man fall off, but it isn’t believed he could have gone ashore without entering the water.

He has been missing from the barge since about 9 a.m. The man is reportedly wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt and was not wearing a life jacket when he was last seen on the barge.

The waterway is currently closed to boating traffic. Searching the area are a boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral, an aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, and boatcrews from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Brevard County Sherriff’s Office.
