Coast Guard searching for man in Morgan Bay

MOBILE, Ala.— The Coast Guard is searching for a 43-year-old man who went missing when his boat capsized just north of Fort Morgan in Mobile Bay early Saturday morning.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile watchstanders received a call just after midnight from a good samaritan that a pleasure boat in Mobile Bay had capsized. Two of the three people on the boat were wearing life jackets and safely swam to shore. The missing man was not wearing a life jacket and was last seen clinging to an ice chest.

The following Coast Guard units are searching:

  • 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Stingray and crew
  • A 25-foot small boat and crew from Station Dauphin Island
  • A 41-foot small boat and crew from Station Dauphin Island
  • An MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from Air Station New Orleans
  • An HC-144 Ocean Sentry search plane and crew from Aviation Training Center Mobile
