Coast Guard searching for man in Mississippi River near Baton Rouge

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is searching for a man who was reported entering the Mississippi River near downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Saturday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report from the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Department that a man was seen entering the river at about 7 a.m. Saturday.

The man was reported to be about 20 years old with short hair, a goatee and wearing shorts and a yellow shirt.

Involved in the search are:

  • Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew
  • Coast Guard Station New Orleans 29-foot Response Boat – Small II boatcrew
  • East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Department
  • Baton Rouge Police Department
