Coast Guard searching for Little Deer Island fisherman

BOSTON – The Coast Guard is searching for a fisherman whose vessel was found beached on Little Deer Island still running with no one aboard.

Brian Gross, 68, of Little Deer Island was collecting lobster traps aboard the Ruby G, his 24-foot lobster boat and may have fallen overboard.

Coast Guard Sector Northern New England received a call from the Little Deer Fire Department around 2 p.m today requesting Coast Guard assistance to maximize the search for the native.

Crews aboard 47-foot rescue boats from Coast Guard Stations Rockland and Southwest Harbor, the Maine Marine Patrol, the Little Deer Fire Department and local fishermen are searching the area around Weeds Point and Little Deer Island.

“The Coast Guard is working closely with local agencies and fishermen to find Mr. Gross as soon as possible,” said Chris Barry, of Coast Guard Sector Northern New England.
