Coast Guard searching for ejected boater

ESTERO BEACH, Fla. – The Coast Guard is searching for a 32-year-old man after he was ejected from a 21-foot boat about a half-mile off the coast of Estero Beach, Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach, Fla., were relayed a call from a 911 operator reporting that two men were ejected from their boat at about 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

One man, age unknown, was able to swim to shore and call 911.  He was treated by local EMS.

The men’s names are being withheld pending next-of-kin notifications.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., immediately launched a search for the missing man.

Searching are:

  • Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter rescue crew
  • Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach 33-foot Special Purpose Law Enforcement Craft crew
  • Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew
  • Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWCC) crew
  • Lee County Sheriff’s Department Helicopter crew
  • Lee County Fire and Rescue boat crew
  • Sanibel Island Fire and Rescue crews

FWCC is investigating the incident.
