Coast Guard searching for diver 30 miles southeast of Cape Fear, NC

60 Elizabeth CityWILMINGTON, N.C. – The Coast Guard is searching for a 48-year-old man, 30-miles southeast of Cape Fear, Thursday.

Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders were notified that a diver from the vessel Atlantis reportedly experienced equipment failure and did not resurface, at approximately 10:50 a.m.

Watchstanders from Sector North Carolina dispatched a 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew from Coast Guard Station Oak Island, a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium from Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City to search for the man.

The 110-foot Coast Guard Cutter Cushing and 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Ibis are en route to assist in the search.
