Coast Guard searching for boy off the northern coast of Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Coast Guard rescue aircrews continue searching Sunday for a 17-year-old boy in waters off the northern coast of Hatillo, Puerto Rico.

Missing is Jeffrey A. López, who reportedly was walking on the rocks in the vicinity of Punta Maracayo, Hatillo when he was struck by a wave and thrown into the water Saturday evening.

Search and Rescue Coordinators at Coast Guard Sector San Juan received a call from a 911 emergency operator, who relayed the report from a bystander on the beach.

Rescue crews aboard MH-65 Dolphin helicopters from Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen, Aguadilla, have been searching for López since Saturday evening alongside Puerto Rico State Emergency Management and Puerto Police Joint Forces of Rapid Action rescue crews.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the missing boy are requested to contact the Coast Guard Sector San Juan Command Center at 787-289-2041.
