PT. DUME, Calif. – The Coast Guard is searching for a boater approximately 30 miles west of Pt. Dume after receiving a mayday call off the Ventura and Los Angeles County coastal waters on Channel 16 at approximately 2:09 a.m.
A Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles MH-65C Dolphin helicopter was launched to conduct a search after the call was received. The mayday call stated “This is King Fisher I, mayday, mayday, mayday, come back Coast Guard.” No additional information was received from the call.
Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles – Long Beach issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast (UMIB) to try to receive transmission from the distressed vessel operator or from a boat that may be able to assist in the location of the King Fisher I.
The rescue helicopter completed its first search pattern without finding the boat, and a second search pattern, a first-light search, is currently on-going.
If anyone has any information about the King Fisher I is asked to contact the U.S. Coast Guard immediately at (310) 521-3801.
