NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard and local agencies are searching for a person in the water near Empire, Louisiana.

Missing is Mark Matherne from Slidell.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at approximately 1:30 p.m. Monday of a sunken vessel approximately six nautical miles southwest of Empire, Louisiana.


Matherne’s boat was found sunk in the vicinity of Shell Island Bay, Louisiana.

Involved in the search are:

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew
Coast Guard Station Venice 29-foot Response Boat-Small boat crew
A 24-foot Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water boat crew from Coast Guard Station Grand Isle
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries
Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office
