Coast Guard searching for a missing diver in Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Coast Guard rescue crews are searching Wednesday for a missing diver in waters in the vicinity of Buck Island Reef off the northeast coast of Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

St Croix U.S. Virgin IslandsThe missing diver reportedly is a Virgin Islands Police Officer, who went scuba diving Wednesday morning with two other persons aboard a recreational vessel. The operator of the vessel reportedly was able to only locate and recover one of the two divers that had gone into the water.

Coast Guard Search and Rescue Coordinators at Sector San Juan received a call from a 911 emergency operator at 8:14 a.m. Wednesday, who reported the incident.

Rescue crews aboard Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopters from Air Station Borinquen, Aguadilla and the Coast Guard Cutter Reef Shark are searching for the missing diver alongside Virgin Islands Police and Department of Natural Resources personnel.
