Coast Guard Searching for 78 Year Old Man

CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. – The Coast Guard, along with state and local agencies, is searching for a 78-year-old man who was reported missing from his vessel in the Crystal River Barge Canal near Crystal River, Fla., today.

The Coast Guard received a call at 10:32 a.m. today from a Good Samaritan stating that he had located an abandoned 17-foot john boat in the barge canal. A Coast Guard Station Yankeetown boat crew arrived on scene at about 11 a.m. and found fishing gear and a wallet inside the vessel.

Missing is Walter Paris, of Dunnellon, Fla. Paris launched his vessel at about 7:15 a.m. today and was last heard from at about 8:30 a.m. He is reported to be wearing a blue shirt and blue pants.

Search and rescue crews from Coast Guard Station Yankeetown, Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the search for Paris.
