OLD SAYBROOK, CONN. – Members from the U.S. Coast Guard, along with several local agencies, are searching for a 58-year-old man near Old Saybrook, Conn.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound, in New Haven, Conn., were contacted by the Old Saybrook Fire Department, at approximately 8 p.m., Sunday night reporting that a male fisherman had gone missing after he lost his fishing pole overboard and attempted to retrieve it. The man was last seen in the water by friends on board the boat.
A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station New London, in New London, Conn., Coast Guard Cutter Ridley from Sector Long Island Sound in New Haven, Conn., and a rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod in Cape Cod, Mass., members of the Old Saybrook, Essex, Clinton and Westbrook Fire Departments, along with the East Conn. Police Department, and rescue and dive teams from local agencies are all assisting in the search for the man.
The man was last reported to have been without a personal floatation device and was wearing jeans and a yellow t-shirt.
