Coast Guard Searching for 4 Missing From Sinking Boat

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard is searching for four people, including a 12-year-old child, from a boat that was reported sinking approximately 10 miles off Galveston, Texas this morning.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston received a phone call at 10:10 a.m. from the Galveston Police Department requesting assistance. The police department had received a call from Melquisedec Acevedo, who reported that his boat was disabled. A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Galveston, Texas, was dispatched to provide assistance. While the rescue boat was en route, Acevedo called reporting that his boat was sinking, and then all communications with him were lost.

When the rescue boat arrived on scene, there was no sign of the boat or its crew. The rescue boat crews then started a search of the area. A second rescue boat crew from Station Galveston, a rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Houston, the patrol boats Skipjack and Manta and a Falcon jet crew from Corpus Christi, Texas are also assisting the search.
