Coast Guard searching for 4 missing boaters in waters south of Boca Chica, Dominican Republic

San Juan, Puerto Rico – Coast Guard and Dominican Republic Navy rescue crews are searching for four missing boaters in waters south of Boca Chica, Dominican Republic.

Robert Wayne and Laura Ricart, U.S. citizens; Javier Jorge, Spanish citizen and Plinio Jacobo, Dominican Republic citizen, reportedly went fishing out of Boca Chica, Dominican Republic Thursday morning aboard a 24-foot white sportfisher vessel with a blue trim and a blue bimini top. The boaters never returned to Boca Chica after they were expected to arrive Thursday afternoon.

The Coast Guard Liaison Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic notified Coast Guard Sector San Juan watchstanders of a request for assistance Friday from Dominican Republic Naval authorities for the Coast Guard to assist them with the search efforts.

A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater HC-130 rescue crew is searching waters south of Boca Chica, Dominican Republic alongside Dominican Republic Naval authorities, searching aboard an 85-foot patrol boat and 24-foot Boston Whaler, for the missing boaters. Dominican Republic Navy Auxiliary personnel, Dominican Republic Navy’s volunteer force, are also searching with surface vessels and aircraft.
